Kamloops Paralympian Greg Stewart has teamed up with all five local breweries to raise money for Canadian athletes.
Shot of Gold is the brainchild of Stewart, a gold medalist at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.
Described as a clean, crisp and delicious golden ale, the beer was brewed at Iron Road Brewing in collaboration with The Noble Pig, Red Collar Brewing, Alchemy Brewing Company, and Bright Eye Brewing.
The new beer will be debuted at a launch party today, Feb. 3, at The Noble Pig.
“We’re turning it into a big thing and giving back because Kamloops has done so much for me,” Stewart told NL Sports. “This is an incredible community, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
You’ll be able to buy 650 ml bottles of the beer at some Kamloops liquor stores, but it will also be on tap at all five breweries on Friday, Feb. 4. Stewart says $1 from the sale of each pint and bottle will be going to the CAN Fund, to help support Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
“I’m not sure if people are aware but being a Canadian athlete can be financially a ton of stress,” Stewart said. “You have track fees, you have team fees, travelling, food, and things like that. If you look at how we’re supported, there is not a ton of it.”
There will also be a silent auction with the proceeds also going towards CAN Fund.
