Kamloops shot-putter Greg Stewart has won the 2021 F.N.A. Rowell Trophy, given by Athletics Canada to the Field Event Athlete of the Year.
The 35-year-old won gold in the shot put F46 event at the 2020 Toyko Paralympics, with a Canadian record 16.75-metre throw.
“I don’t really know what to say, except for thank you to everyone,” Stewart said, in a video message on twitter.
“Thank you to my coach, Dylan Armstrong, all the staff at [Athletics Canada], all my friends and family and loved ones, my partner. Thank you everyone for helping me get this far, helping fuel the fire to allow me to go and compete at my very best.”
“I also just want to acknowledge all the other athletes. You may have not have won the award but trust me, you won it in your heart. You did an incredible job. You fought through the last five years in order to get to where you are today and I am really grateful to be a part of this team.”
Dylan Armstrong, a bronze medal winner at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, is a past recipient of the F.N.A Rowell Trophy back in 2011.
