The Tournament Capital Centre Fieldhouse will be closed for nine weeks from June 20 until Aug. 22 to allow crews to make some upgrades.
The City of Kamloops says the work will include sanding and resurfacing of the court floor, repainting of the track line, and replacing and repairing the Fieldhouse curtains.
There will be a modified track and court schedule with reduced hours from June 1 to 5 and again from June 11 to 19, as well as a full closure between June 6 and 10 to accommodate Thompson Rivers University convocation ceremonies.
Regular hours at the Fieldhouse will resume on Aug. 27, after the Canada 55+ Games, which will be held in Kamloops between Aug. 23 and 26.
“It is important to ensure that our facility is maintained and continues to provide a quality venue for residents and sporting events,” Sean Smith, the City’s Business Operations and Event Supervisor, said. “The maintenance and warranty work being done during this closure is necessary to meet the needs of the public and all our user groups.”
Smith says the rest of the TCC will be open as will the outdoor track at Hillside Stadium.
“Our objective during this closure is to continue to ensure that patrons have the most positive experience possible as they commit to a healthy, active lifestyle,” he said.
All Fieldhouse memberships will be frozen while this work takes place, though Smith added people can request a refund if they’d like by calling the TCC at 250-828-3655.
