Getting too and from Tk’emlups to Kamloops via public transit is going to remain limited this year.
Discussing BC Transit activities with Kamloops Council, transportation planner Jacob Burnley has revealed their plans to create evening and weekend transit services on Route 18, Mount Paul, have to be shelved this year due to a lack of provincial funding.
“The rationale behind this was the majority of provincial funding this year went to maintaining service levels and to ensure that the basic level of service was met.”
Other transit expansion plans being shelved include plans for increased service on Route 4 through Aberdeen and Route 3 through Westsyde.
“The earliest we would likely see these expansion priorities come to the forefront and be in place would be September of 2023,” said Burnely.
However, BC Transit’s Seth Wright says evening and weekend transit to Tk’emlups is still possible.
“Next year, one of the expansion opportunities on that route 18 is the Tk’emlups land and we are working with the Tk’emlups nation on enhancing service to their area.”
