Two adults and a baby were killed in a two-vehicle crash involving a semi on Highway 5 near Vinsulla, north of Kamloops.
Police from Barriere and the BC Highway Patrol were called just before 11 Thursday morning.
“[We] are in the very early stages of this investigation but can confirm that two adults and one infant have died as a result,” Cpl. Mike Halskov of the BC Highway Patrol told NL News. “The cause of the crash is not known at this time.”
BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) tells NL News that a total of three people were taken to hospital – one by air ambulance in a critical condition, and two by ground ambulance in a stable condition.
Highway 5 was shut down in both directions for around 6 hours before being fully reopened to traffic late Thursday afternoon.
This was the second crash on Highway 5 in the span of about 16 hours.
RCMP say the passenger in a pickup truck was killed in a head-on crash with a semi-truck in the 8000 block of Highway 5 in Darfield, south of Little Fort, around 8:20 last night.
“The collision remains under investigation to determine the leading cause of the crash,” Cpl. Alex Bérubé, said, noting the driver of the pickup was taken to hospital. “No further information available at this time.”
The highway was closed was closed for about 12 hours as a result of Wednesday night’s crash.
