Kamloops Councillor Sadie Hunter is running for mayor.
Hunter announced her candidacy outside Kamloops City Hall Thursday morning, making her the third incumbent city councillor – after Arjun Singh and Dieter Dudy – hoping to replace the retiring Ken Christian.
“I’m always excited to serve the community and I have said that from Day one and I think that diversity at the table is important and it is an important part of making better decisions,” she said on the NL Noon Report.
“I feel like I have life experience and also professional experience that I can bring to the table that is fairly unique.”
Her announcement did not include details of her platform, which she said will be based on public input throughout the summer.
“I really feel like I’m in a position to bring a level of positivity to the discussion and to the discourse because there has been some challenges around disagreeing and being disrespectful,” Hunter said.
“I think we need to move through that and rise above it and learn to work together as a team and as a community to get through some of the tough things that we are facing.”
Also on the ballot for mayor of Kamloops are businessman (and former councillor) Ray Dhaliwal and businessman Reid Hamer-Jackson.
The 2022 municipal election is slated for October 15.
