Kamloops RCMP say three people are in custody after an six hour stand-off on the North Shore yesterday.
It began around 1 p.m. after possible gun shots were reported on Yew Street, near Tranquille Road.
Cpl. Crystal Evelyn tells NL News the large police presence was the result of the Southeast District Emergency Response Team (ERT) being brought in as a precaution, due to the reports of a shooting in the Dallas area the night before.
“It is not presently believed to be related, but at the time out of an abundance of caution, the RCMP detachment contacted the Southeast District Emergency Response team to help ensure the area was safe for everybody,” Evelyn said.
The incident forced nearby residents to shelter-in-place as the standoff dragged on through the afternoon.
RCMP say it wrapped up at around 6:45 p.m., with the arrest of the three people. They remain in custody at this time, Evelyn said.
“We know that this lasted several hours, and we realize that it created some inconvenience for people and concern as well, and we are grateful to the public for their understanding,” she said.
No one was hurt, and no charges have been laid yet.
