The Canada Games Aquatic Centre at the Tournament Capital Centre in Kamloops will be largely be closed to the public until after the Labour Day long weekend.
The facility will be closed from Aug. 16 to 21 to host the BC Summer Swimming Association Provincial Championships. It will be open on Aug. 22 and 23 before a three day closure from Aug. 24 to 26 to host the Canada 55+ Games.
Following the conclusion of that event, the pool will be closed for annual maintenance from Aug. 27 to Sept. 5, returning to regular operations on Sept. 6.
“We appreciate our guests’ continued support and understanding that the Tournament Capital Centre and Canada Games Aquatic Centre are our premier facilities to host events,” Sean Smith, the City’s Business Operations and Events Supervisor said.
“It’s important that we ensure that all guests continue to receive great value from their memberships.”
Smith says people who have an existing monthly or annual pool pass or those with a full TCC facility pass will get an automatic 21-day extension to their membership.
People are being directed to the Brock Outdoor Pool or the Westsyde Pool and Fitness Centre if they want to swim while the TCC pool is closed. They’re also being directed to the Albert McGowan Water Park, the McDonald Water Park, the Prince Charles Park Wading Pool or the Westsyde Centennial Water Park if they’re looking to stay cool.
The Riverside Park water park downtown is still under construction, but the beach area has reopened to the public. People are being told be careful as there are no lifeguards on duty at Riverside Park.
The Tournament Capital Centre Fieldhouse has been closed since June 20 to allow crews to make some upgrades. That facility is set to reopen to the public on Aug. 27 following the conclusion of the Canada 55+ Games.
