There will soon been two inspectors stationed at the Kamloops RCMP detachment.
That is according to outgoing mayor, Ken Christian, who was updating fellow councillors Tuesday about his meeting with the RCMP E Division at the UBCM convention earlier this month.
“We did talk about the officer in charge replacement process as well as the addition of a second inspector for Kamloops and we had a positive answer there that there will be a second inspector,” Christian said.
“So we will have a superintendent and two inspectors going forward.”
It will mean at least two new senior RCMP officers, as Superintendent Syd Lecky is transitioning out of his current role in Kamloops.
Christian previously told NL News that Inspector Jeff Pelley has taken over as the interim commanding officer of the Kamloops RCMP Detachment, with a new superintendent expected to be named this fall.
“The RCMP also confirmed that the City will be involved in [officer in charge] interviews later this month,” City staff said, in a statement Tuesday.
At this time, there is no word on when this second Inspector position will be filled.
