Logan Stankoven had his first hat trick of the season but the Kamloops Blazers fell 4-3 in a shootout against the Prince George Cougars Saturday night.
Hudson Thornton – who put the Cougars up first – and Stankoven scored the first five goals on the night with Stankoven’s third giving the Blazers their first lead with less than two minutes to play.
However, Chase Wheatcroft tied things up with 41 seconds to play after the Cougars pulled their goalie. Koehn Ziemmer then netted the overtime winner 1:39 into the extra frame to give Prince George the win.
Michael Schnattinger made 25 saves in a losing effort for Kamloops while Ty Young stopped 45 of the 48 shots he faced to take the win.
It was the second straight night where the Blazers had over 40 shots in a losing effort, after they fired 45 shots at Winnipeg’s Daniel Hauser on Friday night.
The Blazers head down the Coquihalla for a 4 p.m. game against the Vancouver Giants on Sunday, Oct. 23.
Their next home game is Friday, Oct. 28, against Spokane.
