It was a winless weekend for the Kamloops Blazers after they were beaten 6-3 by the Vancouver Giants on the road Sunday.
Both teams scored once in the first period as Caedan Bankier cancelled out Jaden Lipinski’s opening goal for Vancouver.
The Giants rode a three-goal second period with Ethan Semeniuk, Damian Palmieri, and Zack Ostapchuk all finding the back of the net, though a powerplay goal from Fraser Minten meant the Blazers were only down 4-2 heading into the final period.
It didn’t get better in the third though as Lipinski scored his second of the night early in the period before Samuel Honzek ensured the points would go to the home team.
Honzek’s goal came just 32 seconds after Matthew Seminoff scored what felt like a consolation goal for Kamloops with two minutes left in regulation.
Dylan Ernst stopped 31 of 37 shots he faced to take the loss while Jesper Vikman turned away 40 of 43 shots in the win. It was the third straight game where the Blazers fired at least 40 shots on net.
The Blazers remain atop the BC Division with a 5-3-1-1 record. They’re currently fourth in the Western Conference behind Seattle, Portland, and Everett.
Next up for the 2023 Memorial Cup hosts is a home and home series against the Spokane Chiefs in Kamloops on Friday, Oct. 28 and in Spokane on Saturday, Oct. 29.
