It appears operations have been impacted by job action at the Highland Valley Copper mine near Logan Lake.
Sources within the United Steelworkers Union say operations at the mine were curtailed due to a “safety stand down.”
At issue is said to be an incident involving a Bucyrus digging machine.
At this point, United Steelworkers Local 7619, which represents hundreds of workers at the Teck Resources operation, has not made an official comment.
However, the company has issued a short statement.
“The health and safety of workers is our first priority, and all safety concerns are thoroughly reviewed and addressed,” said Teck in a short statement to Radio NL.
“In addition, the team at Highland Valley Copper is working with employees to ensure strong safety performance. HVC’s leadership team are working to engage with the union to work towards a safe resumption of regular operations.”
Radio NL has calls out to USW leadership for more details.
