One person was killed after a three vehicle crash on Highway 5 south of Barriere this afternoon.
BC RCMP Highway Patrol spokesperson Constable James Ward tells NL News they were called to the crash between two semis and a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck around 12:10 p.m., Feb. 9.
“The driver of the Toyota is deceased,” Ward said. “There was a passenger in the Toyota who was injured but not seriously. The driver of the semi appears to be okay.”
Police say the passenger was taken to hospital.
At this time is not clear what caused the crash though police say there is no indication that criminality was a contributing factor.
Ward told NL News that an RCMP collision analyst was heading to the scene from Kelowna, noting the highway was expected to be closed for several hours.
Drive BC says people can detour onto Highway 97 and Highway 24, with the highway currently expected to reopen somewhere between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10.
This is the second fatal crash on Highway 5 north of Kamloops in a week. A semi driver was killed in a two vehicle crash near McLure last Thursday, Feb. 2.
